Disease/Pest occurs only when these 3 overlap:

Susceptible
HOST
+
Virulent
PATHOGEN
+
Favorable
ENVIRONMENT

2. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) 🛡️

Methods (in order of priority):

  1. Cultural: Crop rotation, sanitation, resistant varieties.
  2. Physical/Mechanical: Hand picking, barriers, traps.
  3. Biological: Predators, parasitoids (natural enemies).
  4. Chemical: Pesticides (Last resort!).

3. Types of Pests 🐛

  • Insects: Chewing (caterpillars) vs Sucking (aphids).
  • Pathogens: Fungi, Bacteria, Viruses, Nematodes.
  • Weeds: Grasses, Sedges, Broadleaves.
  • Vertebrates: Rats, Birds.
