DepEd MELC reviewer for Grade 7 Mathematics, Quarter 2. Study the rules, worked formulas, and exam hacks below.
Algebraic Expressions
An expression has terms, coefficients, and variables. Combine only like terms (same variable and exponent).
You cannot add 3x and 5y โ they are unlike terms. Only combine terms with the SAME variable.
Solving Linear Equations
Use the properties of equality โ do the same operation to both sides to isolate the variable.
Whatever you do to one side, do to the other. Move constants first, then divide by the coefficient.
Measurement and Conversion
Use SI units and convert by multiplying/dividing by powers of 10. Compute perimeter and area of basic figures.
| Figure | Perimeter | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Rectangle | 2(L+W) | L ร W |
| Square | 4s | sยฒ |
| Triangle | a+b+c | ยฝ ร b ร h |
Worked Example
Solve 3(x โ 2) = 12.
Distribute first, then isolate x. Always check by substituting back.
Before your test, make sure you can confidently do each of the following:
- Explain and apply Algebraic Expressions.
- Explain and apply Solving Linear Equations.
- Explain and apply Measurement and Conversion.
- Explain and apply Worked Example.
Re-read any section above where you hesitate, then try the worked example again without looking.
