Grade 7 Math โ€” Quarter 2: Algebra & Measurements

Grade 7 Math Q2: algebraic expressions, linear equations, and measurement.

DepEd MELC reviewer for Grade 7 Mathematics, Quarter 2. Study the rules, worked formulas, and exam hacks below.

1

Algebraic Expressions

An expression has terms, coefficients, and variables. Combine only like terms (same variable and exponent).

3x + 5x = 8x    but   3x + 5y stays 3x + 5y
โš ๏ธ Common Mistake

You cannot add 3x and 5y โ€” they are unlike terms. Only combine terms with the SAME variable.

2

Solving Linear Equations

Use the properties of equality โ€” do the same operation to both sides to isolate the variable.

2x + 3 = 11 โ†’ 2x = 8 โ†’ x = 4
๐Ÿ’ก Exam Hack

Whatever you do to one side, do to the other. Move constants first, then divide by the coefficient.

3

Measurement and Conversion

Use SI units and convert by multiplying/dividing by powers of 10. Compute perimeter and area of basic figures.

FigurePerimeterArea
Rectangle2(L+W)L ร— W
Square4ssยฒ
Trianglea+b+cยฝ ร— b ร— h

Worked Example

Solve 3(x โˆ’ 2) = 12.

3x โˆ’ 6 = 12 โ†’ 3x = 18 โ†’ x = 6

Distribute first, then isolate x. Always check by substituting back.

๐Ÿ“Œ Quick Recap โ€” Master These

Before your test, make sure you can confidently do each of the following:

  • Explain and apply Algebraic Expressions.
  • Explain and apply Solving Linear Equations.
  • Explain and apply Measurement and Conversion.
  • Explain and apply Worked Example.

Re-read any section above where you hesitate, then try the worked example again without looking.
