Grade 10 Math โ€” Quarter 2: Polynomial Functions & Circles

Grade 10 Math Q2: polynomial functions and the geometry of circles.

DepEd MELC reviewer for Grade 10 Mathematics, Quarter 2. Study the rules, worked formulas, and exam hacks below.

1

Polynomial Functions

Graphs are smooth, continuous curves. The degree and leading coefficient determine end behavior and the maximum number of turning points.

2

The Circle

Centerโ€“radius form: (x โˆ’ h)ยฒ + (y โˆ’ k)ยฒ = rยฒ
๐Ÿ’ก Exam Hack

The center is (h, k) โ€” note the SIGNS flip. (xโˆ’3)ยฒ+(y+2)ยฒ=25 has center (3, โˆ’2), radius 5.

3

Chords, Arcs, and Angles

A central angle equals its arc; an inscribed angle is half its intercepted arc.

4

Worked Example

A circle has center (2, โˆ’1) and radius 4. Write its equation.

(x โˆ’ 2)ยฒ + (y + 1)ยฒ = 16
โš ๏ธ Common Mistake

Watch the signs: center (2, โˆ’1) becomes (xโˆ’2) and (y+1).

๐Ÿ“Œ Quick Recap โ€” Master These

Before your test, make sure you can confidently do each of the following:

  • Explain and apply Polynomial Functions.
  • Explain and apply The Circle.
  • Explain and apply Chords, Arcs, and Angles.
  • Explain and apply Worked Example.

Re-read any section above where you hesitate, then try the worked example again without looking.
