1. Figure Series (Sequences) ๐
Predict the next figure in the sequence based on the changing pattern.
Common Patterns to Spot
- Rotation: Clockwise or Counter-clockwise movement (45ยฐ, 90ยฐ, 180ยฐ).
- Movement: Elements moving corners, sides, or to the center.
- Alternation: Colors (black/white) or shapes flipping back and forth.
- Counting: Number of lines, dots, or sides increasing/decreasing (1, 2, 3...).
2. Figure Grouping (Odd One Out) ๐ฏ
Find the figure that does NOT belong to the group.
Check for Symmetry
Is one figure asymmetrical while the others are symmetrical?
Check Line Types
Are 3 figures made of straight lines and 1 made of curved lines?
Check Enclosure
Are 3 figures closed shapes and 1 is open?
Check Intersections
Do lines cross in 3 figures but not in the 4th?
3. Spatial Visualization (Paper Folding) ๐ฆ
Mental gymnastics time! Visualize how a 2D pattern folds into a 3D object.
๐ก Cube Folding Strategy
- Opposite Faces: In a "cross" pattern, alternate squares are opposite. They can NEVER touch or be seen together.
- Adjacent Faces: Squares sharing an edge in 2D will share an edge in 3D.
- Orientation: Watch the direction of arrows or symbols. If an arrow points UP in 2D, where does it point when folded?
4. Practice Questions
1. A square rotates 45ยฐ clockwise in each step. After 4 steps, what is its position?
View Answer
180ยฐ (Upside down). 45ยฐ x 4 = 180ยฐ.
2. Three figures are triangles. One figure is a square. Which is the odd one out?
View Answer
The Square. It has 4 sides, while others have 3.
Abstract Reasoning Tips
- โข Don't Overthink: Usually the simplest pattern is the correct one.
- โข Eliminate: Cross out answers that clearly violate the rule.
- โข Time Limit: If stuck for 30 seconds, guess and move on. Don't waste time!
- โข Trust Your Gut: Your brain is good at spotting patterns subconsciously.
